We see so many devices coming in everyday that have either been water damaged or had other devices that risk losing data like photos and contacts, which is why it is so important to ensure you are regularly backing up your iPhone

There are 3 ways to back up your device.

Manual iTunes Backup

Most people are familiar with backing up your device via iTunes. To do this you need a computer with iTunes installed.

  1. Connect your iPhone to your computer via the USB to Lightning cable.
  2. If this is the first time connecting your device it will ask you to trust the computer. Tap the trust button on your iPhone and choose 'Continue' on the computer.
  3. Your iPhone should now appear in iTunes, select your iPhone
  4. You will see a 'Backup Now' button which will create a full backup of your device onto the computer.
  5. This may take 5-10 minutes depending on how much data is on your device.
Manual iCloud Backup

Backing up your device using iCloud it is usually recommended to have a wifi connection so you don't use all your cellular data.

  1. On your iPhone open the Settings app
  2. Depending on your iOS version, tap your name then choose iCloud. On older iOS versions scroll down and choose iCloud
  3. Tap iCloud Backup and then choose 'Back Up Now'
  4. This may take a few hours depending on the size of your device and internet connection.
Automatic iCloud Backup

The automatic iCloud backup is the best option for backing up your iPhone. Using this method whenever you are connected to a wifi network, plugged in to charge and locked, your device will automatically backup.

  1. To ensure this setting is turned on, On your iPhone open the Settings app
  2. Depending on your iOS version, tap your name then choose iCloud. On older iOS versions scroll down and choose iCloud
  3. Tap iCloud Backup and then ensure that 'iCloud Backup' is switched on
  4. Now you can sit back and relax knowing that iCloud is looking after your data for you. Just ensure that you have wifi turned on otherwise you won't be able to connect to your network and your device won't backup.
